  • Maharashtra Security Force has been created vide Maharashtra State Security Corporation Act, 2010 (Maharashtra Act No. 2010).
  • Personnel are selected on the basis of a rigorous competitive process, where they are judged for their mental and physical fitness for the job.
  • Character and antecedent of each of the personnel is minutely verified and they are kept under strict discipline.
  • All the selected personnel are deemed to be public servants under Section 21 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and have been conferred the status of Special Police officer as per Section 21 of Bombay Police Act, 1951.
  • Personnel have police powers including power of arrest.
  • All the members of the Force are authorized to carry weapons and use them in discharge of their duty.
  • Force personnel are domicile of Maharashtra. Hence, they have better understanding of socio-cultural and political scenario of the area.
  • Once selected, personnel undergo rigorous training, which comprises of drill, weapon handling, tactical requirements for the job and soft skills. They are trained by personnel of Special Reserve Police Force (SRPF) of Maharashtra, officers of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), instructors of Maharashtra Intelligence Academy (MIA), Pune and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Government of India
  • All the Force personnel undergo periodic refresher and reorientation training courses
  • Recruitment, training, deployment, service delivery and discipline of the personnel is supervised by serving officers of Indian Police Service (IPS)
  • Force personnel are governed by Police (Incitement to Disaffection) Act, 1922 and the Police Forces (restriction of Rights) Act, 1966. Hence, they can neither form or join any association or organize or participate in any agitation
  • Deployment of MSF personnel is dynamic and scalable. It can be changed both in job description and in numbers without much delay
  • As senior officers supervising functioning of MSF are serving officers, better liaison with police and administrative machinery is ensured in the case of need.
